History and Mission of the Library

The Carnegie library was built in 1908. The library was named for its donor, Andrew W. Carnegie. Mr. Carnegie was born in 1837 in Dunfermline, Scotland. He was an American industrialist and philanthropist. Mr. Carnegie died in 1919 at the age of 84. He is buried in a cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, NY.
Mr. Carnegie donated $12,500 which made the building the library possible. Sizable additions have been made to the Carnegie building in 1957, 1959, and 1967.
The primary mission of the Andrew Carnegie Library is to support the educational programs of the college by working to meet the informational and instructional needs of all members of the college community. Therefore, the library aims to provide access to a sufficient number of relevant, current, authoritative resources and an environment conducive to successful research and study.
