Lady Blue Bears Pick Up Two Wins at CIAA Roundup

The Livingstone College softball team picked up two wins in the CIAA Roundup hosted by Shaw University this weekend. They swept The Lincoln University (PA) 20-0 in five innings while they held on 10-9 for a victory over Elizabeth City State University. Livingstone suffered losses to Chowan University, Virginia Union University and Virginia State University.

The Lady Blue Bears are now 5-4 overall.

The Lady Blue Bears were unmatched to the Lady Lions of Lincoln while they led off with nine unanswered runs. The Lady Lions pitcher also walked Livingstone 22 times. Livingstone pitcher Shantiqua Dowe allowed only one hit the entire contest.

Against Elizabeth City State both team played fairly the same with the game being tied in the fourth inning at 4-4. The fifth inning is where the game became intense. Two errors on Livingstone’s behalf gave the Lady Vikings the momentum to score six runs compared to the Lady Blue Bears’ five runs. In the sixth inning, an error by the Vikings short stop allowed Dowe to advance to third base and in turn score the final run for their second win of the weekend.

The Lady Blue Bears were swept 35-1 against Chowan with Tiara Marshall scoring Livingstone’s sole point of the game. Virginia State left the Lady Blue Bears scoreless 12-0 while their final loss of the match came against Virginia Union 5-4.

Livingstone will return to action on March 25, as they host Morris College in a doubleheader competition. Game times are 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The game will be held at the Jaycee Optimist Sports Complex, 1113 Martin Luther King Ave., Salisbury, NC 28144.
