Salisbury, NC – The Livingstone College women’s basketball team defeated the Virginia Union University Lady Panthers 64-48 in New Trent Gymnasium on Saturday evening.

The Lady Blue Bears had four players to score double figures.
The game got off to a slow start. It wasn’t until three minutes into the game before either team could score. The Lady Panthers led by as much as six points in the first half until a layup by Tiffany Evans tied the game with less than five minutes to play.

The Lady Blue Bears began to find their rhythm with the help of Cierra York’s six points to end the half in the lead 26-20. Livingstone shot 38 percent from the field and managed to out-rebound the Lady Panthers 27-22.

The Lady Blue Bears went into the second half with fierceness. Alexis Hicks and Taylor Daniels were the first to score. The Lady Blue Bears maintained the momentum of the game to power them to a win.

Defensively, Wende Foster played a big part in keeping the Lady Panthers at a 20 percent shooting from the field. Foster recorded seven blocks and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

Hicks led the Lady Blue Bears with 14 points and nine rebounds, one shy of a double-double night. Daniels did however succeed with a double-double night. She finished the game with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

York contributed 12 points late in the second half due to her being in foul trouble. Ashley Walker paced the Lady Blue Bears with 10 points and seven rebounds.
