Lady Blue Bears Defeat ECSU 62-44

Elizabeth City, NC – The Livingstone College Women’s basketball team defeated the Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University 62-44 at the R.L. Vine Center on Thursday evening.

The Lady Blue Bears had four players to score double figures.

Livingstone forced the Lady Vikings to commit 21 turnovers in which they converted to 18 points. The Lady Blue Bears dominated also the Lady Vikings on the boards.

The Lady Blue Bears showed true dominance on the offensive glass as they grabbed 16 offensive boards which transpired to 14 second chance points. Junior forward Taylor Daniels was very aggressive shooting 77 percent from the floor. She ended the game with a game-high 14 points, 12 rebounds along with fellow teammate Cierra York.

York kept the Lady Blue Bears’ offensive tempo going with her five assists. She helped open the floor for shooters like Ashley Walker who scored 13 points and fearless player Alexis Hicks, who scored 13 points, recorded seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Wende Foster, who currently leads the CIAA in blocked shots, played a major role on both sides of the court. She finished the game with nine rebounds, seven offensive, and three blocks. Foster currently averages 4.4 blocked shots per game.

The Lady Blue Bears entered the second half with a four point lead 29-25 and never looked back while increasing the score by as much as 18 points with 23 seconds left in the second half to seal the victory.

The Lady Blue Bears are now 8-6 overall and 3-1 in CIAA league play.

Livingstone will return to action on Saturday, January 11 as they travel to Petersburg, VA to face Virginia State University. Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
