Evans Score 16 Against Shaw

Salisbury, NC – The Livingstone College women’s basketball team suffered a 96-71 loss to the Lady Bears of Shaw University on Saturday night.
The Lady Blue Bears had four players to score double figures.
The Lady Blue Bears team effort allowed them to control the beginning of the first half. Tiffany Evans led the way for the Lady Blue Bears as she rained back-to-back three pointers in the opening minutes of the game. Evans tenacity amped her fellow teammates to follow her lead.
The Shaw Lady Bears seemed to be unshaken by the Lady Blue Bears offensive pressure. Unable to score in the first two minutes of the game, Shaw began to find their rhythm and ended the first half in the lead 50-43.
As a team the Lady Blue Bears knocked down nine, three-pointers to stay within reach of the game. The Lady Blue Bears shot 64 percent from the three point line, but a low 34 percent from field goal range.
The Shaw Lady Bears started the second half where they left off, but the Lady Blue Bears maintained their composure.
The Lady Blue Bears cut the deficit to ten points on several occasions with the help of Cierra York who not only was a force in the field, but also made big shots behind the three point line.
Although the Lady Bears continued to hit shots, the Lady Shaw Bears offensive front was too much for the Lady Blue Bears to overcome.
The loss drops the Lady Blue Bears to 9-8 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Evans led the Lady Blue Bears with 16 points. She hit four triples for Livingstone.
Ashley Walker paced the Lady Blue Bears with 14 points while Sophie Lepzem chipped in 12 points. She also recorded eight rebounds. York Added 11 points to the score.
Wende Foster recorded a game high eight blocks.
The Lady Blue Bears will return to action on January 22 as they travel to Fayetteville, NC to face the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State University. Game time is slated for 4:30 p.m.
