The Lady Blue Bears track & field team traveled to George Mason University on Sunday to compete in their annual last chance meet and did some fine tuning to prepare for the outdoor season.

The team was led by Quanera Hayes who has already qualified for the NCAA Indoor National Championships on March 14th-15th in Winston-Salem, NC. Hayes who has been sidelined for the last four weeks due to an injury was able to bounce back in a strong way by running 54.69 in the 400 meter dash. Without an oversize track conversion, this equates to her fastest time of the indoor season. Quanera placed second in the event.

“Even though this is her first defeat of the season it gives us much hope going into the National Championship meet,” says head Coach Justin Davis. Hayes still has the only sub 55 second runs of the season in Division II.

Also performing well were Annakay Edwards in the 800 meters who placed 9th in the event running a time of 2:22.18 for her last indoor race of the season; and Ebony Moore who placed 9th in the shot put with a throw of 11.37 meters.

Justin Avery was the sole Blue Bear men’s team traveler but showed up in a big way by placing first in the 200 meters in 21.99. Avery will also make his first appearance in the 2014 NCAA National Championships.

The next destination for the Blue Bears will be the NCAA Indoor National Championships. Hayes will compete in the prelims of the 400 meters at 3:50 PM on the March 14th and the 200 meters at 5:55 PM. Avery will compete in the 200 meter prelims at 5:35 PM on March 14th.
