Blue Bears Stopped by Virginia Union, 32-25

Junior running back Justin Forte carried the ball 30 times for 101 yards and sophomore Drew Powell threw for 233 yards, but the Livingstone College football team dropped Saturday’s 32-25 decision to Virginia Union University at Alumni Memorial Stadium.
The Blue Bears drop to 2-3 on the season.
Powell connected 17-of-32 passes and threw two touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Anthony Holland totaled 110 all-purposes yards as he caught five passes for 94 yards, and returned one kick return for 16 yards.
In Virginia Union’s first drive of the game, the Blue Bears defense turned up the pressure on the Panthers as LC’s defensive back Hildon Bush intercepted the Panther’s pass. In six plays, Leonardo Manzo’s 37 yard field goal attempt put the Blue Bears on the scoreboard, 3-0.The Panthers responded with their own 34 yard field goal to tie the score 3-3.
The Panthers drove down the field in nine plays to take the lead 10-3. Holland caught a 35 yard reception from Powell to tie the game again at 10-10. The Blue Bears ended the second quarter that way.
Virginia Union opened up the third quarter with another touchdown in nine plays. The Blue Bears responded with a 24 yard field goal attempt to inch for the lead at 17-10. On the Panther’s next play,
Livingstone’s Kenneth White recovered a fumble and returned the ball for a 35 yard touchdown to take the lead at 19-17. Virginia Union ended the third quarter with a 24 yard touchdown to recover the lead, 24-19.
The Blue Bears began the fourth quarter with Jalen Hendricks catching a 10 yard touchdown pass. The Blue Bears attempted their second two-point conversion, but failed. Livingstone led by one points, 25-24.
On a quarterback keep, the Panther’s Damon Eric Shaw toted the ball 47 yards down to the Livingstone’s one yard line. The Panthers two point conversion was good and they took the lead and the victory 32-25.
Along with White’s touchdown, he also totaled a game high 14 tackles and one tackle for loss. Jalen Hendricks finished the game with seven receptions for 64 yards and one touchdown. Avery Collins caught three passes for 65 yards.
The Blue Bears return to action Saturday, October 12 when they travel to Raleigh, NC to face St. Augustine’s University at 2:00 p.m.
