Blue Bears Compete at Wake Forest Invitational

Winston-Salem, NC-Livingstone College men and women track and field teams competed at the Wake Forest Invitational at the JDL Fast Track and recorded several personal best this past weekend.

Sophomore Garland Archie was the highest men’s competitor finishing 3rd in the shot put at 13.93m. Also placing in the shot put was Freshman Vance Griffin in 9th throwing 12.13m. Senior Justin Avery was an 8th place finisher in the 200 meter dash in 22.41. He also finished 16th respectively in the men’s 400 meter dash coming through in 51.37. Also finishing in the top 15 were Freshman Tollis Johnson who placed 9th in the long jump, jumping 6.53m; as well as Sophomore Otis Tisdale placing 15th in the 60 meter hurdles in a personal best of 8.55.

For the women, Quanera Hayes continued her quest toward her second DII national championship placing 1st in the 400 meter dash in 55.93 making this her second straight win of the season. She also placed 3rd in the 200 meter dash in 24.42. Senior AnnaKay Edwards was a 12th place finisher in the 800 meters with a time of 2:27.26 as well as finishing 15th in the mile running 6:11.54. Rounding out the top 15 was Freshman Ebony Moore who threw 11.19m in the shot put to finish 13th.

The Blue Bears will prepare for a long weekend as they will compete in the Niswonger Invitational hosted by East Tennessee State University on January 17th and 18th and the WSSU Invitational at the JDL Fast Track on January 19th.
